Sophia McCoy began interning with NDRN in January of 2020 as a Policy Assistant. She is a junior at The City College of New York pursuing a B.A. in International Studies with a concentration in Comparative Public Policy. She is currently in Washington, DC through a fellowship with the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership.
Prior to her time at NDRN, Sophia has worked in various sectors of public health from Girls on the Run, a non-profit that targets enhancing the confidence of young girls in all five boroughs of New York City by way of physical and emotional health to acting as a medical volunteer in Arusha, Tanzania. In these roles, her experience has been centered on the distinctions and importance of the intersectionalities of public, private and non-profit health approaches to affect lasting positive change. In New York, Sophia devotes a lot of her time to public service by spending every Tuesday at her local soup kitchen. On the weekends, she works with children whose parents are incarcerated.
