NDRN joined with 40 other organizations the National Women’s Law Center’s comments to the proposed Title IX regulations. The comments applaud the Department of Education for proposing a strong rule that makes clear that state laws that categorically ban transgender, nonbinary, and intersex students from playing sports violate Title IX and that would otherwise sharply restrict the ability of schools to deny these students the right to play sports, and urges the Department to specify further the clear protections provided by the rule, in order to ensure that all women and girls—including transgender and intersex women and girls—and nonbinary students can play sports alongside their peers, free from sex discrimination and consistent with Title IX’s far-reaching protections.
