Once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity to do civil rights work to defend the human
rights of people incarcerated in Texas
prisons and jails.
Primary
Duties: Litigate cases; conduct discovery, including written
discovery and depositions;
handle settlement negotiations, mediations,
motions, court hearings, trials and all other
aspects of civil litigation;
assist in supervision of law clerks; attend
biweekly legal meetings to
advise staff of status of cases and consult
regarding intake of cases; visit
prisons and jails to interview clients and
witnesses, and observe prison
conditions.
Qualifications:
Licensed attorney. Legal
experience. Salary
$36,000-$45,000/year,
depending on experience, etc., plus medical and
retirement. Spanish-speaker preferred, but not
necessary. Ability to do
word processing. Casual work environment.

OPPORTUNITY
TO WORK FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE
Primary
Duties: client outreach and interviews; maintaining client contact;
assist attorney with case preparation and
investigation; prepare documents
for filing in state and federal court; draft
affidavits and documents;
manage case files; provide referrals and
general information; assist in
supervising volunteer interns;
work with other community agencies in
arranging services; make
referrals to social service providers.
Qualifications:
bilingual (read, write, and speak Spanish and English
fluently preferred, but not necessary);
experience or similar background
preferred; organizational
ability; typing and computer skills; interest in
human rights.
Salary:
$25,000-30,000 depending on experience, plus excellent benefits.
