General Summary:
The Managing Attorney is responsible for the management of work flow
related to the implementation of the priorities of DRNC. This position manages
professional personnel who provide direct client representation.
Job Duties:

Manage
legal services at DRNC to assure conformance with professional standards, NDRN
voluntary standards and DRNC policies
·
Ensure
that direct legal representation to clients occurs in a timely and ethical
manner incases selected in accordance with program priorities, goals and
objectives
·
Coordinate
legal training for DRNC staff
·
Provide
consultation, technical assistance and training to client groups, families, and
other appropriate groups or individuals
·
Provide
training and supervision of paralegals
·
Participate
in appropriate training to enhance professional skills
·
Maintain
current knowledge of relevant statutes and case law developments affecting
clients
·
Maintain
current knowledge of service delivery systems for individuals with disabilities
in
·
Attend
staff meetings as requested and participate in case selection and review with
staff as assigned
·
Maintain
effective working relations with courts, professional groups, the private bar,
and other legal service providing agencies
·
Assist
in development, implementation and evaluation of program goals and priorities
·
Assist
in development and production of agency publications as requested.
·
Provide
timely reports to the Board of Directors and Litigation Committees and attend
Board meetings as necessary
·
Participate
in agency decisions regarding staffing needs and hiring decisions.
·
Participate
in development of office policies
·
Attend
coordinator meetings to develop and monitor general office policies and
operations, and assure good interagency communication
·
Perform
other duties as required
Requirements:
·
Law
degree from an accredited law school
·
North
Carolina Bar membership or ability to sit for bar exam or reciprocity
·
Minimum
five years legal experience
·
Three
years legal management experience
·
Must
have broad knowledge and progressively responsible public interest litigation
experience
·
Thorough
knowledge of state and federal law affecting persons with disabilities
·
Must
understand the various systems and agencies providing services to persons with
disabilities and their interactions
·
Protection
&Advocacy experience preferred
·
Good
interpersonal skills
·
Understanding,
influencing and serving people are important considerations
·
Working
effectively and cooperatively within a team framework
·
Political
savvy, public relations skills, and supervisory skills
·
Excellent
writing, speaking and negotiating skills are required
·
Must
have ability to analyze legal and systemic issues
