JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: PROGRAM
COORDINATOR, Disproportionate Minority Contact
The Missouri Juvenile Justice Association
is seeking a Program
Coordinator for a statewide grant program focusing on Disproportionate Minority
Contact (DMC) in the Juvenile Justice System. The program coordinator will be responsible for general
oversight of the project. The project
activities include establishment of statewide steering committee and workgroup,
identifying and working with community
coalitions to identify strategies to address DMC, as well as coordinating a
statewide summit. The Coordinator would attend
trainings, workshops, and meetings as necessary to support the project. Salary is $40,000.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in
related field. Experience in the Juvenile
Justice System (DMC) is preferred. To

Purpose: The purpose of this position is to develop
and implement the Disproportionate Minority Contact Program.
Accountable to:
Missouri Juvenile Justice Executive Director
Hours of Work: Full
time.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree; experience in juvenile justice; familiarity with best
practices and model DMC program concepts; working knowledge of and comfort with
the uses of technology, including web-based discussion groups, data bases, and
other networking functions. Strong written and verbal
communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
Major
Responsibilities:
I. Education
and training
A.
Work
with JJAG and communities to plan forum and Spring Conference plenary and
workshop sessions
B. Coordinate forum and
action planning session
C. Recruit court programs
D. Coordinate Technical
assistance
II. Reporting
A.
Prepare
monthly reports as required by funding source.
B. Report to Board of Directors as requested by Executive Director.
III. Statewide
groups
A. Facilitate workgroup meetings with key Department of Public Safety staff, representatives from the Office of the States Courts Administrator, and other key individuals previously involved in prior DMC activities
B. Coordinate statewide steering committee meetings
IV. Local Coalitions.
A. Assist the statewide workgroup in identifying at least 3 counties to improve DMC numbers in their area.
B. To develop a multidisciplinary coalition consisting of juvenile justice
professionals, educators, law enforcement, mental health professionals, and
others in each community.
C.
To assist each multidisciplinary coalition in collecting data on minority
involvement in the juvenile justice system in that community. The communties will
share information/lessons learned in a report to be used by other communities.
D.
To assist each coalition in identifying reasons for any disproportionate
minority contact.
E.
To develop strategies in each community to address disproportionate minority
contact, depending upon the reasons for the disproportionality.
V. Research and Technical Assistance
A. Continue to work with and develop partnerships with the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention, the Office of the States Court Administrator, and others. Research best practice models.
